The guy who sold it probably took it in the shorts big time. Hell There's probably more than that just in chrome and paint in it. I guarantee you could not build it for that. True it IS a good time to buy a custom, pick up a Cycle Trader and it is full of them. With the economy tanking, and no signs of improvement any time soon, guys who bought these customs a couple years back are unloading them in droves in the face of $1,700 a month notes on them. BTW welcome to the forum from Houston. bprsnt 29th January 2010, 14:29 Thanks! I just could not pass it up, he showed me the receipt and it was $38,000. I can't wait to trick it out. The speedo is stuck on Kilometers or out of calibration. I am thinking about installing a Dakota Digital and just get rid of the (Thunder Heart Performance) or what ever it is. I opened up the speedo housing and there are no names, numbers or anything........... hutch52 29th January 2010, 14:55 I just bought my 2nd Slammer. Its a 2003 with Right side drive. What motor is in it? :welcome form SE PA 07classic chop.... 29th January 2010, 15:06 hutch where is Ridley Park Pa?...Is it out rt.28 north from pittsburgh? slouch_hooligan 29th January 2010, 15:07 Thanks! I am thinking about installing a Dakota Digital and just get rid of the (Thunder Heart Performance) or what ever it is. I opened up the speedo housing and there are no names, numbers or anything........... This is something I have been wondering about with these Customs. That is parts availability. what motor does it have in it? I see an S&S air cleaner so I'm guessing it is an S&S carb. Is the motor S&S as well? If so that's a good thing as far as serviceablity and parts availabilty goes. I wonder about some of these with H&R, H&H or whatever brand of billet motor, if and when the company goes belly up, which may be well likely in the current economic climate, what one would do for replacemant parts. And not only motors but wheels tires, tranny's, forks etc. I saw a totally bitching Custom up at my local Indie's a couple of weeks ago when I was getting new pipes. It had a rigid frame that looked like it took a 300 or350mm rear tire sitting there rather forlorn with a150 being it's replacement. I guess the owner could not afford or find the actual replacement. bprsnt 29th January 2010, 15:09 Right side drive was an option for $2000.00. It has the 107 Motor I had no idea they were available either, I just was shopping around and came across the bike. I only wanted the rightside drive so I was shopping for later models. bprsnt 29th January 2010, 15:15 What I know about these bikes is that most Parts are off the shelf. American Ironhorse is out of business but you can get what ever you need at JP Cycles. hutch52 29th January 2010, 15:30 This is something I have been wondering about with these Customs. And not only motors but wheels tires, tranny's, forks etc. There are parts out there. E-has parts from people who bought out the inventory of parts in AIH auctions. They think have us over a barrel and want ridiculous prices, for buy now sale. Alot of guys here have done some work to run down problems and alternate parts. The only real problem I see is getting the wheels and pully to match the design. But somebody did a great job finding some who rebuilds them. The motors and carbs are S&S. Thanks every one who helped us Ironhorse riders. Especially our fearless Harley Master Mechanic who's been able to xref some of AIH proprietary parts. There's also 1 or 2 former AIH employees on here.... haven't heard from them lately!!!!!!!!!! slouch_hooligan 29th January 2010, 15:31 What I know about these bikes is that most Parts are off the shelf. American Ironhorse is out of business but you can get what ever you need at JP Cycles. True that. What i'm getting at is that the beauty of the bike you have purchased is in large part due to the careful consideration and matching of very specific parts to give it a specific over all look. After all this is why one buys a custom, for the above average saddlery and mechanical artistry. I was just wondering about keeping it that way. I have never owned one of these beauties and was just trying to get some basic insights into ownership issues. hutch52 29th January 2010, 15:43 hutch where is Ridley Park Pa?...Is it out rt.28 north from pittsburgh? No it's close to the Phila Inter Airport, I'm 5 min. from I-476 and I-95 So yeah man it would be really cool to get together for a ride. My sister lives on the west side of Pittsburgh:thumbup2 Waycoolsportster 29th January 2010, 20:03 Nice scoot....and welcome to the forum. A few of us here now.:welcome Hairbone 31st January 2010, 05:59 motors are pretty much clones, they all use the same stuff Harley uses for the most part anyways, and most aftermarket is adaptable, no worries! wideslammer 1st February 2010, 20:15 bprsnt, You mentioned Dakota Digital as a possible replacement for your speedo. They do make units that are plug-in replacements for AIH bikes. Here's the page from their site: http://tinyurl.com/ydzalxz Some of the AIH owners on the site have had Thunderheart repair their speedos. Do a little searching to find the lady to contact (or someone may jump in with that info). As far as KPH versus MPH, that MIGHT be a simple change that would not require replacement. Let us know what happens. bprsnt 1st February 2010, 20:40 bprsnt, You mentioned Dakota Digital as a possible replacement for your speedo. I just bought this Slammer at the end of the season and did not have much time to get to the bottom of this problem. I have read about all the problems with the Thunderheart speedos and like the looks and features of the Dakota Digital (Spendy) I will get in touch with Thunderheart and see what they say. By the way... I need to get new tires. Do you know anyone in the south metro that works on these bikes? (everyone I knew of has closed) I can't wait to ride! :banana chopperguy 1st February 2010, 22:30 You can check out Smileys cycle works, he is in Prior Lake. He was a tech @ Blackwater Choppers, great guy, resonable and the only one I trust with our bikes. His number is 952-270-5088:thumbup2 bprsnt 1st February 2010, 22:56 Thanks, I will check Smileys out. I really appreciate the tip! wideslammer 2nd February 2010, 20:31 bprsnt, I'll recommend a shop that's close to you --- Big Twin Cycles (Bill Hanson) 5795 235th Street West Farmington, MN His shop is on the north side of 235th between Cedar Avenue and Denmark Avenue. He's done work on my bikes and is very knowledgeable. His tire changing machine will handle the wide rear tire on your Slammer. He won't have a 240/260/280 (?) in stock but there's plenty of time for either you or him to get one before our Minnesota riding season resumes. He vacations and rides his snowmobile in the winter so he may not be there the first time you call. bprsnt 3rd February 2010, 14:26 Wideslammer, Big Twin Cycles shop is really close. I will order the tires and get in to have them replaced. Thanks for the info. wideslammer 3rd February 2010, 18:40 Big Twin Cycle's number is probably in the phone book but since I've got it right here, I'll give it to you --- 651-463-3023 bprsnt 5th February 2010, 20:31 Just ordered a bunch of accessory's (signals, intake, ect) 2 more month's till riding season in MN chopperguy 6th February 2010, 00:00 2 months yet?
