I just changed all the fluids on my new '07 Softail Night Train to Syn3.
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on an easy way to change the primary fluid.
Anybody that's owned a Sportster, knows that to fill the primary fluid, you either have to remove the derby cover (and then screw with getting that damn gasket to stay in place so it doesn't leak)- in which case you have to put the bike on a lift so it sits upright, or you can fill it through the inspection cover.
Well, on the '07 Softails, there's no inspection cover. The derby cover must come off. Good news, is that the gasket has some nice little lips on it that help it to stay in place. The even nicer thing, is that the manual says it holds 32 oz of fluid. I was able to fill it all the way until it started to spill over, by just using a funnel. I was able to leave it on the sidestand, and did not need to use a lift. There was only about 1 oz of fluid left in the 32 oz can, so I'm guessing the manual either has a typo, or there was still about 1 oz of old fluid left in there.
Anyway, everything shifts great. Neutral is easy to find, and life is good. Just didn't want any of you guys to fuss with putting the bike on a lift just to change the primary fluid. So easy and cheap to do, may as well just do it every time you change your oil.
